Mission

The purpose of this Working Party is to guide manufacturers, suppliers and material producers to make the optimum choice in materials and material combinations for durable, reliable and safe service conditions of automotive structures.

Strategies

• Create an inventory of the main durability and material degradation problems in the automotive sector
• Study the relationship between actual behaviour of products, components and materials versus results of accelerated laboratory test methods
• Gather understanding of the use of material combinations and multi-material components under actual service conditions
• Establish a document on materials, single and multi-mode loading, maintainability, reparability and recycling
• Develop case histories
• Disseminate information on automotive corrosion events and publications worldwide
• Organise automotive corrosion networks
• Be actively involved in automotive corrosion standardisation activities

This Working Party will deal with the above-mentioned aspects in relation to:

• Design aspects
• Choice of materials and material combinations
• Corrosion technology (cleaning, conversion, sealing) and curing of organic coatings in relation to durability and appearance
• Joining technology (welding, structural adhesive bonding, mechanical fastening and hybrid joints) and the influence on durability
• Forming technology and the influence on durability
