EFC Young Scientist Grant winners

 

2023

The winners of the EFC Young Scientist Grant 2023, along with the topics the will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Ester López Martinez, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain will visit Dr. Joao Tedim, University of Aviedo, Portugal for research on
    "Hybrid coatings PEO/polymer with inhibitors - Surface modification of additively manufactured Mg alloys with active protective PEO coatings".
  • Jonathan Apell, TU Chemnitz & FSU Jena, Germany will visit Prof. Christine Geers & Prof. Jan Froitzheim, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, for reserach on
    "Qualitative and quantitative influence of water vapor on oxidation of Co-Cr-Fe-Mn-Ni-Si complex concentrated alloys". 

The grant was presented at EUROCORR 2023 by the Chair of the YoungEFC, Noémie Ott.


2022

The winner of the EFC Young Scientist Grant 2022, along with the topics he will study and the institutions he will visit, is as follows:

  • Borhan Bin Mohammad Sultan, Chimie Paris Tech – PSL Research University, Paris, France will visit Dr. Dominique Thierry and Dan Persson, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Kist, for research on
    "Uncovering the influence of precipitates on the conversion coating of aluminium alloy using state of the art IR spectroscopic techniques".

2021

The winners of the EFC Young Scientist Grant 2021 (formerly EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant), along with the topics they will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Michael Strebl, Friedrich‐Alexander‐University of Erlangen‐Nuremberg, Germany will visit Dr. Polina Volovitch, Chimie Paris Tech, PSL Research University, CNRS, Paris, France, to work on
    "Coupling respirometric corrosion monitoring with in‐situ Raman";
  • Joshua Owen, University of Leeds, UK will visit Prof. Sigrún Nanna Karlsdóttir, University of Iceland, Reykjavik, to work on
    "Augmented corrosion product layers for enhanced corrosion protection of carbon steel in geothermal environments".

2020

The winners of the EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant 2020, along with the topics they will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Safiya Al Abri, University of Manchester (UK), will visit Dr. Joao Tedim, University of Aveiro (Portugal), to work on
    "Organic-ceramic hybrid coatings for corrosion protection of aluminium".
  • Edoardo Basilico, IFP Energies nouvelles/INSA-Lyon (France), will visit Prof. Anne Neville, University of Leeds (UK), to work on "Identification of cementite enhanced cathodic activity and its impact on localized corrosion of carbon steel".


2019

The winners of the EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant 2019, along with the topics they will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Yue Guo (University of Manchester, UK) will visit Dr. Marta Mohedano (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain) to work on "Multifunctional ldh-peo coatings on Mg alloys for biomedical".
  • Di Mei (Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht, Germany) will visit Dr. Tao Zhang (Northeastern University, Shenyang, China) to work on "Eco-friendly conversion coating on a Mg alloy in combination with corrosion inhibitors".
  • Anke Silvia Ulrich (DECHEMA Forschungs-Institut, Frankfurt, Germany) will visit Dr. Alexander Knowles, (University of Birmingham, UK) to work on "Tem of oxide scales on Cr-rich high temperature alloys".

  • Leila es Sebar (Politecnico di Torino, Italy) will visit Prof. Philippe Marcus, (CNRS-Chimie Paris Tech, France) to work on "Surface reactivity and corrosion mechanisms of Cu-based alloys".


2018


The winners of the EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant 2018, along with the topics they will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Mrs. Darya Rudomilova (University of Chemistry and Technology Prague, Czech Republic), will visit Dr. Michael Rohwerder (Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung, Düsseldorf, Germany) to work on "Hydrogen detection in view of high strength steel microstructure via scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM) measurements".
  • Mr. Paul Johan Denissen (Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands), will visit Dr. Polina Volovitch (Chimie Paris Tech, France) to work on "Towards the understanding of inhibitor release and synergies from coatings for long-term protection by Local Electrochemical Impedance Mapping".
  • Mr. Leonardo Iannucci (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), will visit Dr. Régine Bassèguy, CNRS, Toulouse (France) to work on "Assessment of microbial corrosion in marine and hypersaline environment".

The winners of the EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant 2017, along with the topics they will study and the institutions they will visit, are as follows:

  • Ms. Anissa Célina Bouali (University of Kiel, Germany) will visit Dr. Alexander Lutz ( Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium), in the frame of her studies "Smart coating optimization and enhancement of their components compatibility";
  • Ir. Berk Özdirik (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium) will visit Dr. Patrik Schmutz (EMPA, Switzerland), in the frame of his studies "Assessment of electrochemical H-sorption properties in steel by micro-cell technique";
  • Mr. Hongchang Qian (University of Science and Technology Beijing, China) will visit Dr. Yaiza Gonzalez-Garcia ( Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands), in the frame of his studies "Shape memory polymer (SMP)-based self-healing coatings".

2016


On the occasion of EUROCORR 2016 in Montpellier, France, the EUROCORR Young Scientist Grant was awarded to:

  • Mr. Baiwei Zhu (Jönköping University, Sweden) will visit Prof. Flavio Deflorian (University of Trento, Italy) in the frame of his Ph.D. studies: "Optimization of aluminum alloys, the casting and the anodizing processes for high thermal conductive components".

  • Ms. Elisabetta Di Francia (Politecnico di Torino, Italy) will visit Dr. Delphine Neff (CEA/CNRS/University Paris Saclay, France) in the frame of her Ph.D. studies: "Optimisation of a non-invasive laser cleaning procedure".
