EUROCORR 2013 report

Dear Fellow Corrosionists,

Herein please find the link to the European Federation of Corrosion newsletter no. 21 recently distributed at our EUROCORR 2013 congress in Estoril, Portugal last month. Our highest compliments to our member society the Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM) and most especially to Profs. Fatima Montemor and Joao Fernandes for putting on a congress of the highest caliber and for their hospitality and warmth extended to all of us in their sunny country of Portugal.

As expected, this year's EUROCORR has surpassed all others with almost 900 participants and 472 oral presentations coming from 60 different nations. These numbers prove beyond-a-doubt that EUROCORR is the premiere European Corrosion Congress and we at the European Federation of Corrosion are proud to offer the world corrosion community a central forum where engineers, scientists, researchers and technologists can meet industry in face-to-face dialogue within a framework of true global collaboration. Added to this dynamic mix is the presence of our valued corrosion emeriti who act as mentors to the up-and-coming younger generation of corrosionists which ensures continuity and an inter-generational supply chain of knowledge and experience. All this plus the cultural flavor of a different European host country each year makes EUROCORR a winning formula!

We welcome your valuable presence at next September's EUROCORR 2014 in Pisa, Italy from the 8th to the 12th The call is now open.

Keep your eyes out for "hot topics" such as

  • WP 15 Corrosion in the Refinery Industry's
Naphthenic acid corrosion in upsteam refinery units (visbreakers)…influence of sulfur in naphtenic acid corrosion phenomena...application of polymer and composites in very corrosive pipes and reactors in the refinery, petrochemical and chemical industries...
  • WP 14 Coatings'
Self-healing coating systems...Corrosion protection of magnesium alloys...
  • WP 6 Surface Science & Corrosion Mechanisms & Protection's
Multiscale Modelling of Materials and Corrosion Prediction
  • WP 9 Marine Corrosion's
influence of biofilm on stainless steel including influence on cathodic reaction as an influence of oxygen content...Cu-Ni and the influence of biofilm on marine corrosion…performance of marine and offshore paint and coating corrosion systems and their correlation to accelerated corrosion tests, field exposure on ships and performance prediction at low temperatures
    and, for our newly inaugurated
  • WP 22 Corrosion in Aerospace,
the new generation of AA 2024

and many, many more so start planning for your presentations now!
