Issue 2/2014, October 2014

Dear corrosion community member

Here is your link to our European Federation of Corrosion Newsletter 22 updating you on the activities and events of our Federation and its members throughout the world.

Once again, this past September’s EUROCORR 2014 in Pisa has surpassed all others with 948 attendees, 444 oral presentations,180 posters,10 parallel sessions and 31 exhibitors representing 58 countries. Mille grazie to our Italian member society Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia for the top notch organization culminating in the elegant gala dinner at the beautiful 14th century Tuscan manor house Villa Scorzi.

Our 22 working party sessions and multi-disciplinary joint sessions continue to go from strength to strength as they prove extremely valuable in bridging the fundamentals of corrosion science to industry’s needs and our newest Working Party 22 Corrosion Control in Aerospace has taken off like a rocket, attracting leading researchers and participants from the aerospace sector.

Trends of Note: small start-up companies and university spin-offs looking to offer - and find - solutions to their clients’ increasingly complex corrosion problems, research consortia looking for partners, E.U. Commission consultants to corrosion-related projects, employment opportunities and the very best of the world’s corrosion community all gathered at EUROCORR each year to network, network, network in one central and convenient European location. But the biggest surprise of all was…WOMEN! Like never before, women are participating in ever-greater numbers and are the new game changers in the corrosion industry. We at the EFC welcome women in corrosion and recognize their unique role in our mission to consolidate the world’s corrosion community under one roof at EUROCORR each year.

Next year EUROCORR 2015 moves northeast to verdant Graz, Austria so mark your calendars for the 6-10 of September 2015. THE CALL IS OPEN.

Asides from our 22 working party sessions, look out for our newest JOINT WORKING PARTY SESSIONS covering:

  • WP 14 Coatings & WP 22 Corrosion Control in Aerospace: Anodic Oxide Layers for Corrosion Protection and Bonding of Al and Ti Alloys
  • WP 13 Corrosion in Oil and Gas Production & TF CO2-Corrosion in Industrial Applications: Corrosion in Sustainable and Green Technologies
