EFC Newsletter November 2025 p1

Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest edition of the EFC Newsletter.

As we approach the end of the year, it’s a time to reflect on the past 12 months and to celebrate the achievements of the corrosion community – and what better location than EUROCORR. This year, Stavanger hosted Europe’s largest corrosion conference and it exceeded expectation. “There was a real buzz around the conference all week,” explains EFC President, Gareth Hinds, in his opening editorial – and we have some great images from the record-breaking event.
It's also award season, as the EFC acknowledges those giving back to the corrosion community, with awards for this year’s prestigious Honorary Fellow, the European Corrosion Medal, Young Scientist Grant, Travel Grant for Young Corrosionists, as well as the Best Oral Presentation Awards.
Inside, this November edition, we also look ahead to EUROCORR in Dublin next year – and the plenary speakers and topics for the event in the Emerald Isle have just been announced. There are also changes within the EFC, with the appointment of a new EFC Board of Administrators and some new faces chairing the Working Parties, Task Forces, and the Young EFC too.
There’s also information on a Working Party Vice-Chair named as a top global scientist, Young EFC activities at EUROCORR, an exciting nuclear corrosion session, WP 21’s webinar Green Book presentation, and information on why Prof Herman Terryn is the proud recipient of a five foot sword.
And there’s also news from Member Societies and Affiliate members, including a regulatory shake up of water sector, a Summer School, a conference in a monastery, and details of all the latest events and EFC approved courses.
Lastly, thank you very much to everyone who has contributed to this bumper issue. It’s the biggest one yet and I’m very grateful to everyone who has given up their time to make the Newsletter what it is. Please feel free to get in touch if you have anything that you would like to feature in the next edition, and I look forward to speaking with you in the New Year.

All the best
